While the racing world was focused on the tragic Sprint Car accident involving Tony Stewart and Kevin Ward Jr. at Canandaigua Motorsports Park, another tragedy appears to have been miraculously avoided the same weekend at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA. On Friday, August 8th, one day before the Stewart incident, driver Scott Hall went airborne, nearly taking out flagman Keith Russo. If not for the part of the safety cage that blocked Hall’s flying car, we might be talking about two Sprint Car-related deaths in the span of 24 hours.
