While playing against the Washington Redskins, Peterson tore his ACL and MCL. This would be the first year he failed to reach a 1,000-yard season. In his first game back, eight months after surgery, Peterson rushed for 84 yards and scored two touchdowns. That same season he earned NFL offensive player of the year and MVP.
