After one season in which Jason Kidd spilled some water onto the court and smuggled a team containing Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Deron Williams and Kevin Garnett into the weak Eastern Conference playoffs, the Brooklyn Nets have agreed to trade Kidd to the Milwaukee Bucks for two second round picks.

The news is only surprising due to the speed at which this trade happened. News started leaking recently that Kidd was unsatisfied with his role in the Nets organization and wanted more control over basketball operations. The Nets were wary of giving that to Kidd which is understandable considering that Kidd has one season of head coaching experience and has no experience running anything in the front office.

Whether the Bucks give Kidd that control remains to be seen but the Nets apparently didn’t want to wait and try to reach a resolution with Kidd. Kidd will now get to go from coaching a team filled with guys who were pretty much his peers to a team filled with guys who grew up watching him play.

Don’t fear for the Nets though. If the Nets want another egomaniac who believes that he should call the organizational shots due to an extremely short track record of success, there is this “Mark Jackson” who could be available (please, just get Mark Jackson out of the announcer’s booth).

And to think, the Nets had just retired Jason Kidd’s number last season.
