It’s been a while since we’ve seen Ilya Kovalchuk making headlines on American soil – the former NHL star bolted New Jersey for the KHL in in 2013, three years after signing a 15-year, $100 million contract with the Devils.

Apparently, Kovalchuk has an appreciation for fellow New Jersey defectors, because he appears to be a big Brooklyn Nets fan. Kovalchuk was spotted sitting courtside for last night’s Nets-Heat game at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.

Kovalchuk also apparently made a trip to Miami last week to support Nets forward and fellow Russian Andrei Kirilenko. The Nets official Twitter account provided proof:

Poor New Jersey.
