1. Pat Borders, Catcher, Toronto Blue Jays
The pinnacle of Pat Borders’ career occurred in Game 4 of the 1992 World Series when he took Tom Glavine yard for a solo-shot in the third inning, the first run in a Blue Jays 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
Borders would continue to be hot at the plate during the series by batting .450 and recording an OPS of 1.250.
Borders would then make a nice career for himself as a backup catcher, as he floated around the Major Leagues from team to team until 2005. Borders retired with a career ERA of just 3.8 but proved to be a solid veteran presence on many big league clubs.
Borders would once again taste victory as part of Team USA in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, where he captured the gold medal, joining just Doug Mientkiewicz, Orlando Hernandez and Jose Contreras as players to win a World Series ring and Olympic Gold.
