This is the first time I have seen something like this in a hockey game, though Puck Daddy does note that it has happened before.  Check out how a puck literally split in half during a National League A playoff game in the Swiss league.  Cedric Botter who plays for Fribourg-Gottéron launched a shot at EHC Biel goalie, Reto Berra, and Berra got more than he bargained for.  He was able to save half of the puck, and the other half of the puck found its way to the back of the net.  The refs ruled that the goal didn’t count, and luckily the game was decided by a score of 6-1 instead of a one goal difference.
