The second round series between the # 2 St. Louis Blues and # 8 Los Angeles Kings became way more physical during game 2 last night. By the end of the second period, the Kings had a 5-1 lead over the top defensive team in the league, causing the Blues to start the third period on a mission to destroy any and everything in their path. TJ Oshie decided to disregard the 50-pound size difference and completely leveled Dustin Penner in a beautifully clean hit. Mike Richards, being the badass mofo that he is, stepped in to stand up for his teammate, causing a huge scrum that resulted in 5 penalties.

There were 110 penalty minutes handed out in game 2. The late physicality of the St. Louis Blues proved to be effective, but the three-goal deficit was too much for them to overcome. Having now lost the first two games on home ice, you can bet we will see much more of this physical play from the Blues in game 3 in LA….and the Kings most certainly will be counteracting it. It will be worth watching Thursday night.

Penner joined the twitter world a couple of days ago- and if you don’t already know this about him, he’s quite the comedian. He tweeted after the game to give his knight in shining armor a little shout out for having his back:
