As there are too many bowl games now, the enterprise has moved from prestige occasions like the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl to stuff like tonight’s Cheribundi Tart Cherry Boca Raton Bowl, live from the side of an airport near Del Boca Vista, and the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl, happening later this week. The bowl used to be sponsored by magicJack, Beef O’Brady’s and Bitcoin (yep, that happened), and now is sponsored by a lawn mower company, because that’s where bowl games are now.

And to celebrate the new sponsorship, there was a lawn mower race because is there anything more appropriate for a bowl game with that title? To make things even better, the winner of the race was FIU center, Shane McGough.

I can’t believe the sentences I am writing right now. In this race, the coaches of both FIU and Temple “drafted” a team of drivers, including sports media personalities, celebrities and maybe a few actual Gasparilla pirates to navigate a course set up by Bad Boy Mowers themselves, according to the Tampa Bay Times. And when McGough won, he was carried off the course by his teammates because this is what your life is when you play for Butch Davis at FIU.

I’d rather watch FIU and Temple just do lawn mower races instead of them playing football in a meaningless bowl game, to be honest.
