Well, no one will ever say that David West is all about the money after this offseason.

The 34 year-old forward made it clear that he was only interested in a championship ring when he decided to not exercise his $12.6 million option to stay in Indiana.

“At this point in my career, it’s all about winning,” West said during a recent interview with WTHR-TV in Indianapolis. “And again, I don’t want to be in a position where we’re just fighting to make the playoffs. I want to be in a spot where we can legitimately taste the Finals.”

Still, it was a bit eye-opening to see how much West valued the opportunity to play for a contender. On Monday, reports began to surface that the former Pacer will sign with the perpetually-championship-condending San Antonio Spurs for the veteran’s minimum of about $1.5 million. The signing can’t officially take place until Thursday.

The fact that the Spurs were able to convince David West to take an estimated $11 million pay cut is just the latest example of why they’re never going to go away. The Spurs will simply continue to play into May and June until someone discovers whatever Master of the Universe Gregg Popovich has stored in the Spurs locker room.
