Pablo Sandoval suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury after getting hit by a pitch during Tuesday night’s victory over the Texas Rangers. Luckily for the Boston Red Sox, he won’t be out for long. He will, however, miss Wednesday night’s contest.
The third baseman was down for the count after being nailed by a 94-mph fastball from Rangers reliever Scott Feldman in the seventh inning. After the game, manager John Farrell told reporters the injury wasn’t anything to worry about.
“He’s sore. You take mid 90s off the knee, it’s going to be a little sore,” Farrell said per MassLive. “Structurally, he’s already had a scan. Everything is clean as far as that goes. Likely, he’s going to be sore. We’ll check him when he comes in.”
The Red Sox should be having a collective sigh of relief, because their underperforming lineup can’t afford to lose Sandoval, who’s scorching hot against right-handers so far this season (.365 batting average, five home runs, 15 RBI).
The Sox (19-20) look to improve to .500 with another win against the lowly Rangers (16-23).
