Errick McCollum — older brother of Portland Trail Blazer C.J. — is the leading scorer in the the Chinese Basketball Association, averaging 38.1 points per game (well, technically he’s tied for the lead with Willie Warren). The closest McCollum came to playing in the NBA was a stint with the Denver Nuggets’ summer league squad in 2014, and has spent the last four years bouncing around to various professional leagues around the world. He’s currently on the roster of the Zhejiang Golden Bulls, which faced off against the Guangdong Southern Dragons, a 33-3 juggernaut led by Will Bynum and Yi Jianlian (reminder: in China, Yi Jianlian is basically unstoppable).
The Golden Bulls are 11-25, so they were at a disadvantage heading into the game. Except for McCollum and his scoring. He proceeded to score 82 points, shattering the CBA single-game scoring record set two years ago by Quincy Douby. Unfortunately, he didn’t get much help from his teammates, as the Dragons still won, 129-119.
