In a pretty bizarre story, Liverpool FC – the soccer team – has sent injured striker Daniel Sturridge on a rehab assignment with the Boston Red Sox – the baseball team. Sturridge will be heading to Boston to link up with Sox medical specialists in an attempt to recover from a thigh injury suffered in November, which came shortly after other recovering from additional lower body injuries.

It’s extremely rare to a team from one sport send an athlete to work with trainers from a team from a completely different sport, but John W. Henry happens to own both Liverpool and the Red Sox. I’m just spitballing here, but maybe there’s some mistrust between Sturridge and his team’s medical staff, and Henry may have been the one to step in and suggest that Sturridge go to Boston to put an end to his persistent injury problems.

Regardless, Liverpool better hope that Sturridge doesn’t learn how to pitch because the Red Sox are still in the market for an ace.
