There’s a common misconception among the misinformed that bloggers just hang around in their underwear in mom’s basement all day long, sitting around and being lazy while they post dumb stuff on the Internet.

Not true.

In reality, blogging is an intense profession that requires determination, confidence and the ability to stay cool under pressure. Gathering and reporting the biggest stories online can be a burden big enough to break the weak.

The sports world doesn’t just operate from 9-5 and rarely gets a day off, so the same can be said about a good sports blogger. Battling for recognition and pageviews online is almost as much of a grind as the action we follow on the court/field/ice, but it’s one we love.

Also, like most professions, a blogger’s tools are key. Sure, a fast computer and powerful Internet connection are paramount, but there are also other, less recognized game-changers that can help turn a good blogger into an elite blogger.

Take, for instance, deodorant. Yes, you heard me. Deodorant.

Any simpleton can roll out of bed and apply some generic, run-of-the-mill stink stick…but the right deodorant can change a man completely, giving him the extra confidence and swagger he needs to reach that next level.

My old under-performing deodorant would clock out for the day around the time I finished the morning’s stories, leaving me and my armpits to fend for ourselves after just a few hours on the job. In addition to our fierce competition online, we now had to focus on battling sweat and foul odor during the post-lunch rush, which was bad news if a big story broke.

Fortunately, that’s where Gillette comes in. Important moments require true confidence, and with Gillette Clear Gel, guys can remain cool and collected, and have the confidence to say #NOSWEAT no matter what the situation.

With readers counting on us to deliver all their sports news in a timely fashion, intensity at the office can reach extremely high levels. When a news story breaks, we have to make sure we stay on top of emerging developments, working to confirm or squash any rumors or reports that may arise. Our fans count on us to be accurate and professional, and it’s important to stay cool under pressure.

Beyond breaking news, it’s also a tall task to manage a team of writers, even one as amazing as ours. With several elite bloggers on the staff, it’s my job to make sure that communication is fluid, assignments are handed out, expectations are being met and everyone is happy so that the site can reach its full potential.

But the most intense part of my day may come when it’s time to share highlights from the day’s games. As soon as a great play happens, the clock immediately starts ticking to see which site can share it with the world in the timeliest fashion. There are a lot of great sports blogs and websites out there these days, which means that we always have to be on top of our game if we want to stand out from the competition.

Whenever a noteworthy highlight happens, we have guys running around the office capturing those moments, writing up stories to describe them, editing and fact-checking their work, then publishing and sharing them with the world. With the great team we have, that process usually takes around five minutes start to finish.

This is especially important for some of the crazier days on the sports calendar every year; there’s a lot of pressure knowing fans are relying on you to keep them up-to-date. Take, for instance, the NCAA March Madness Tournament. The opening rounds of the tournament feature a handful of do-or-die games happening around the country all at the same time, almost all day long. Even spectating at the office on these days could make you break a sweat.

After some crazier days at the office, I like to head to the local bar and unwind by grabbing some food and drinks with friends – because, yes, bloggers have social lives too. Most of the time, I clock out too late to be able to go home and shower before I meet up with friends, so it’s a good thing that Gillette stays working for up to 48 hours. I can head straight to the bar and enjoy myself without having to worry about the girl next to me getting blindsided by the stench of a hard day’s work, no matter how wild the party gets.

Two twists of the dial in the morning is all it takes to achieve #NOSWEAT confidence all day long. Gillette Clear Gel gives me the confidence I need to be the best I can be. Are you reaching your full potential?
