Sunday’s game between the Houston Rockets and the Oklahoma City Thunder was a low-scoring and heated battle between two teams who expect to see a lot of each other in the coming months.

Things came to a boil in the fourth quarter when the Rockets’ Patrick Beverley got incredibly close to one of the referees. At that point, Scott Brooks stormed the court to, in his words, provide order and protect the referee.

Of course, his actions ended up having the opposite effect as players started to congregate around the exchange. During the altercation (at about the 15 second marker in the above video) Kevin Durant and Dwight Howard had some words. According to Anthony Slater of The Okalhoman, they were not kind words either.

Between this war of words and Dwight’s earlier spat with Kobe Bryant this season, one can’t help but wonder what the hell is up with Dwight and his relationship with other NBA stars.

It’s one thing to gain the ire of Kobe Bryant. The guy is practically fueled by anger. But KD? The man who needed a whole Nike campaign to convince people that he’s “not nice?” That’s a lot more surprising.
