A recent football game between two Utah high schools ended in unlikely and embarrassing fashion when the quarterback for the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles failed to complete the following tasks while up three points against the Spanish Fork Dons: 1) run out the final 3.7 seconds of the game, and 2) take a knee. Part 1 — accomplished. Part 2 — not so much. Even worse, the quarterback simply dropped the ball, thinking that’s how football works. Wrong. The heads-up Dons defenders realized the referees hadn’t blown the whistle yet, then proceeded to scoop up the ball and run it in for the game-winning touchdown. Ouch.
