Kevin DurantLike it or not, the Kevin Durant Free Agency Saga is a thing, and it’s only going to get more unbearable over the next two years (yes, two years, which is when he becomes an unrestricted free agent). The speculation, of course, revolves around whether Durant will choose to remain in Oklahoma City, or sign with the Washington Wizards, his hometown team (or, Option C: join the Lakers and bring his BFF Russell Westbrook with him the following year when he becomes a free agent). A lot of the Durant-to-D.C. chatter died down after he chose to remain with Nike, which opted to match an offer from Under Armor. Under Armor is based in — you guessed it — Maryland. Re-upping with Nike came hot on the heels of the news that the Wizards had hired Durant’s former high school coach to be part of their staff. As you can imagine, all these little things begin to add up and morph into something else entirely.

As for Durant himself, he hasn’t hinted at anything yet, which is why a tweet he sent out Monday morning caused quite a stir. ESPN reporter Britt McHenry tweeted about LeBron James’ latest Beats by Dre commercial, which features the Cavaliers forward returning to Akron and his high school gym at St. Vincent-St. Mary:

Unfortunately for NBA speculators, Durant’s response wasn’t as cryptic as they wanted it to be.

Technically, she didn’t ask Durant about shooting a commercial in his hometown. He just responded as such, and implied that there may be a hometown commercial in his future. That’s all…or is it??? Dun dun dun. In other words, stay tuned…you know, for like two more years and a lot of parsing of words.
