Overtime is just about the last thing an NBA preseason game needs, so at least Phoenix Suns guard Isaiah Thomas provided a little excitement along the way there Tuesday night against the Lakers. Thomas, who is expected to be part of the three-headed point guard monster that will run opponents ragged this season, found himself in the right place at the right time at the end of regulation, and drained a long two from the corner to send the game into overtime.

While the announcers lamented the prospect of an extra period, the sparse crowd (the game was played in Anaheim) was into the theatrics, including Floyd Mayweather, who happened to be sitting just a few feet away from where Thomas launched his equalizer. Thomas immediately turned to Floyd and playfully stared him down.

The Suns eventually prevailed in overtime, 114-108, putting a damper on a 27-point outburst from Kobe Bryant — including two ridiculous crunch time fadeaways.

Thomas led the Suns with 26 points.
