Greg Hardy was convicted of domestic violence this summer, but the Panthers took little action against the emerging star, that is until yesterday’s game against Detroit.

Hardy played in team’s Week 1 win over the Bucs and was scheduled to play in Week 2 until the Ray Rice debacle bombarded the NFL and Adrian Peterson’s indictment rolled in on Friday afternoon. Pro Football Talk is now reporting that he likely will not be playing for a while. Hardy, who choked, dragged and threw around his then-girlfriend last May was sentenced to 18 months of probation in July and given a 60-day suspended sentence as a result.

It appears highly unlikely that the organization would have taken additional action against him if not for the Ray Rice videotape and subsequent release by the Ravens along with the Peterson revelations of child abuse and neglect. While the deactivation is the right move, the Panthers have been widely ridiculed for the laissez-faire reaction to a very serious situation.

Many are nervously and anxiously awaiting the official team and/or NFL decisions on both Hardy and Peterson, which may come as soon as today.
