Surprise, some people drink too much at football games. For the inaugural game at Levi’s Stadium which saw the San Francisco 49ers lose to the Chicago Bears in shocking fashion, Santa Clara police arrested 31 people, mostly for public drunkenness.

Officers arrested 31 people, primarily for alcohol-related offenses, at the San Francisco 49ers’ inaugural regular-season game at the new Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, according to the Santa Clara Police Department.

However, 31 arrests isn’t that outrageous for Niners fans. In fact, that number seems to be about average when considering the historic nature of the game. During the last regular season game at Candlestick, police arrested 30 people, with most of those arrests also resulting from fans drinking too much at the stadium.

Basically, this demonstrates that football fans don’t need an excuse to get drunk at games. Going to any stadium, whether it be a dilapidated shoddy stadium like Candlestick or a brand new stadium like Levi’s, is more than enough.
