Tracy McGrady may have retired from baseball after a short-lived stint but he may not be done with pro basketball.

McGrady has reportedly been working out with Kobe Bryant (perhaps both were just trying to relive their glory days) in order to “test his body” and see if it could hold up to the rigors of a pro return.

The timing is odd, and not only because McGrady’s last foray into the NBA was as a glorified bench-warmer for the San Antonio Spurs. T-Mac is scheduled to go on a basketball tour in China in October, the time when the NBA is getting ready to kick-off. He’ll also need to have an interested team and there’s no indication that there’s even a small amount of demand for McGrady’s services.

For his part, when Yahoo! Sports reached McGrady via email, the former All-Star played down any potential NBA comeback while he has responsibilities overseas. He didn’t completely shut the door on the idea though:

“The comeback will not happen, unless I have the drive whenever I get back.”

And while the idea of Tracy McGrady coming back to the NBA would add a good dose of nostalgia, it may be best if T-Mac stays retired.

After all, he’ll look more like this:

Than this:

.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; height: auto; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }
