tarp

The San Francisco Giants have won their protest of the odd tarp game at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night. After pouring rain stopped the game in the middle of the 5th inning, the Wrigley Field grounds crew made a feeble and controversial attempt to cover the field. Their inability to properly covered the field prevented the game from continuing on a soggy diamond, thus giving the Cubbies a 2-0 five inning victory after a 4-plus hour rain delay.

The Giants, who are actually playing meaningful August games, a concept foreign to Chicago fans, were understandably upset with the debacle and filed an official protest with the league.

According to ESPN, the appeal victory was the first in an MLB game since June 16, 1986. The game will be resumed in the bottom of the fifth inning with a 2-nil score at 5:00 PM EST on Thursday.
