Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad of France dominated the 3000 meter steeplechase final at the European Athletic Championships. While making the final turn, with no one within reasonable striking distance, he decided to remove his shirt and stuff it into his mouth in celebration.

Stupid, but harmless enough, correct? Wrong.

After he issued a (meaningless) yellow card as a warning during the final lap, Spain filed a formal complaint and Mekhissi-Benabbad was ruled to have violated the clothing standard. He was then disqualified from an event that he handily won because Spain, who placed runners 4th and 5th in the race, was so very concerned with his clothing.
