Let’s not overreact or make this into a moment when we suddenly anoint Brian Hoyer the favorite to landing the starting quarterback gig for the Browns and declare Johnny Manziel a bust because of his behavior off the field. But, is it telling that Browns left tackle Joe Thomas recently chose to compare Brian Hoyer to Tom Brady? Maybe.

He’s a lot like Tom Brady. When you look at the way he competes and the way he demands the most out of everybody around him, it’s no coincidence that those guys played together. (Hoyer) has a lot of those same mental attributes and that’s a great thing for a quarterback to have.”

Thomas would go on to say more complimentary things about Hoyer. Things like “He’s the ultimate competitor,” and “…in his mind he expects to win the job…”

Thomas’ comments come just days after reports surfaced that the Browns were “alarmed” by Johnny Manziel’s actions since he was drafted back in May. (Are you kidding me? You’re surprised by the fact that Manziel likes to party? You must have really done your research on this guy before you drafted him).

Like I said, this doesn’t really say if Hoyer is going to be starting week 1. They’re just comments, in favor of Hoyer, said by the team’s blindside protector. That’s all they are. Relax.
