Giancarlo Stanton abused the Target Field crowd with mammoth shots at the Home Run Derby on Monday night. One fan subsequently posted the above photo on Twitter claiming the Marlins slugger smashed his hand with one of those home runs, a harmless post that started with a few laughs from him and the media covering the story.
Stanton was quickly made aware of the fan and sent a couple souvenirs:
Sorry you had to “Bear” this pain @JJacobson13 ! But look on the bright side, now u get my Glove & a Derby ball!
Unfortunately, the fan fabricated the entire story and actually has a birth defect, issuing the following apology via Twitter this morning:
