Here are some links to help you get through your afternoon.

1. George R.R. Martin is totally almost done writing Winds of Winter judging by the vague hints he’s thrown out so far [EW]

Warning: Those who hate even the tiniest spoilers should avoid the next couple of sentences. Seriously. If you’re the type who avoids teasers for Game of Thrones episodes because you want to be surprised by whatever Tyrion is wearing next week, just skip to the next item.

George R.R. Martin is almost as famous for being the author of the fantasy series A Sword of Ice and Fire, of which HBO’s Game of Thrones is based, as he is for the slow pace at which he’s releasing the final books surrounding the events in Westeros. Now, Martin is dropping some hints about what readers can expect when Winds of Winter drops, whenever that is:

“I think we’re gonna start out with a big smash with the two enormous battles.”
“We have more deaths, and we have more betrayals. We have more marriages.”

2. Bigfoot isn’t real says science [recode]

Scientists took samplings from fur purported to come from bigfoots, yetis and Sasquatch and found that they actually belonged to wolves, bears, horses, dogs and a paleolithic bear. A sad day.

3. Tyler Perry somehow successfully trademarked “What Would Jesus Do?” [Gawker]

Tyler-Perry

The trademark will only apply to movies, TV shows and live performances which means that “Tyler Perry’s Madea Asks What Would Jesus Do” will be coming to a theater near you in the imminent future.

4. Joey Chestnut is going to eat all the hot dogs again so watch the women instead [For the Win!]

AP HOT DOG CONTEST A USA NY

The Fourth of July hot dog eating competition is as much a tradition as fireworks at this point. Joey Chestnut will win, barring a complete upset, but keep an eye on the women who compete because they sound just as impressive. For instance, Sonya Thomas holds the world record for eating 445 oysters in five minutes.

“When I first started I felt like an invader in a man’s sport. But, because I was so motivated about competing, I didn’t care who thought what about me.” said Thomas. “Unlike most women, who were probably very concerned that competitive eating might make them ‘un-lady-like,’ that it might make them appear gross. But now we have four women ranked in Major League Eating’s top 10!”

5. The Notebook is a lie [AV Club]

Yeah, turns out Ryan Gosling couldn’t stand Rachel McAdams’ acting. The two had to hash it out through various rounds of screaming and yelling at each other before they could even start to pretend to like each other for the movie.

“Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me?” Cassavetes quotes Gosling as saying. “He says, ‘I can’t. I can’t do it with her. I’m just not getting anything from this.’”

6. Here’s a teaser for Batman: The Complete Television Series for Adam West fans [ComicsAlliance]

I am hyped for some superhero action that isn’t all grim-dark and full of frowns.

7. Now you can make a hit pop song too! [Youtube]

Jason Derulo has it all figured out apparently.
