After appearing to bite Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s 1-0 win on Tuesday, FIFA hit Luis Suarez with a serious suspension on Thursday morning:

It’s the third biting suspension Suarez has been handed in the last handful of years and this latest one will end his 2014 World Cup participation. Uruguay has a maximum of four matches left in this year’s tournament, so Suarez’s ban will extend into the country’s 2018 World Cup qualification campaign.

The four month ban also extends to Suarez’s participation with Liverpool in the EPL, meaning he won’t be seen again on the pitch until late October.

That’s certainly a strong punishment but, hey, when you’re a grown man who can’t stop biting other grown men you reap what you sow.
