According to the NBA Whisperer, Adrian Wojnarowski over at Yahoo Sports online, New York Knicks all-star forward and NCAA champ Carmelo Anthony will break his contract with the Knicks and become an NBA free agent on July 1st.

Apparently, Derek Fisher being the next Knicks coach isn’t compelling enough to keep Melo. According to league sources the Rockets and the Bulls are the most likely to win the Melo lottery.

30 year old Melo could make $125 million over 5 years with the Knicks, but he hasn’t won any significant games since being a Syraccuse Orangeman, so he’s looking for an opportunity to join an immediate contentder.
