Shane Battier is still playing basketball (albeit in a very limited role) but the long-time veteran already has a new job lined up for next year.
After he retires from the NBA following this season, Battier will move over to ESPN to work with their college basketball team, per the Big Lead.
Shane Battier, who said two months ago that he would be retiring after this NBA season barring an “act of God,” has agreed to a multi-year TV deal with ESPN to be a college basketball analyst next season, multiple sources have told The Big Lead.
Battier’s role remains unclear but given his NBA reputation for being the ultimate team player, always willing to flop lay his body on the line for his team, he’ll definitely have some insights that should be valuable for college broadcasts.
Until then, Shane will continue to concentrate on ways to beat the San Antonio Spurs in this year’s NBA Finals rematch. While he’s definitely lost a step or two in terms of effectiveness, (Battier averaged 4.1 points and 1.9 rebounds per game this season) Shane went through similar struggles last season before coming up big in the Finals.
No matter what happens this year, Shane Battier isn’t leaving your TV screen any time soon.
