The Blues and Blackhawks took part in an exhausting three overtime war of attrition in their quarterfinals opener on Thursday night. Both teams had plenty of opportunities to win it over the extra three frames, but the Blackhawks had a golden chance to end it in the first OT but were denied thanks to the game’s best save…and it wasn’t made by a goalie.

After being pushed into the net by Chicago’s Brandon Saad, Blues forward Max Lapierre found himself in perfect position to make an improbable stop while Ryan Miller was caught out of position.

Lapierre’s crazy save prevented what would have been a sure game-winning goal for the ‘Hawks. Instead, the game remained tied for two more periods, until Alex Steen was able to net the game-winner for the Blues 26 seconds into the third overtime.

Check out the great assist from Steve Ott to set up Steen’s goal, incredible play. It was a fitting finish to a wild game.
