Stokes GameIf you read one thing today, make it Bryan Curtis’ “The Stokes Game”, over at Grantland.

Curtis tells the story of the special bond between  the late Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes, an all-time NBA talent whose career (and, ultimately, life) was cut short by a freak injury. In 1958, Twyman began hosting an annual benefit game for Stokes in the Catskill Mountains — somewhat of a precursor to the present-day tradition of NBA stars partaking in various charity summer leagues — that carried on long after Stokes’ untimely death in 1970.
