Understandably, Adam Jones got pretty upset during last night’s Orioles-Giants game in San Francisco when a fan decided to throw a banana in his direction in center field. Following the game, Jones had this message for whoever tossed the fruit:

Today, the San Francisco Giants also released a public statement of their own regarding the incident, albeit one that was a little bit more formal. The Giants official statement on the matter:

We were extremely disappointed to learn about the incident involving Adam Jones at AT&T Park yesterday. The Giants have a zero tolerance policy against this type of behavior, which results in immediate ejection from the ballpark. While we have been investigating the matter since we learned of the situation, unfortunately we have been unable to identify the person responsible. We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Adam and the entire Orioles organization for this unfortunate incident. The inappropriate actions of this individual in no way reflect the values of our organization and our fans.

Although a disgusting and ignorant act, unfortunately it is not the first of its kind. A banana was also hurled at African-American NHL forward Wayne Simmonds a few years ago during a game in Toronto. That fan was later arrested and brought up on charges, one can only hope the same happens with this, in Jones’ own words, “slapdick” from last night.
