Part of what makes minor league baseball so great is all the weird and wacky promotions they put on to draw fans out to the ballpark. In the latest example of strange promotions, the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs (Philadelphia Phillies Triple-A affiliate) are giving away a free funeral on ‘Celebration of Life’ night.

IronPigs fans have to write a 200-word essay on what his or her ideal funeral will be, then the team will choose the best essay and award the author a free funeral during a home game on August 20th.

The funeral package being given away includes a casket, funeral direction, body removal, embalming or cremation, hearse and facility for the funeral services, a wake or viewing, a $1,500 headstone and a $300 floral casket display.

That’s actually a pretty valuable prize pack, as it can cost thousands upon thousands of dollars to put together a solid funeral. It’s too bad that the winner won’t actually get to enjoy the prize pack though because, you know, they’ll be dead.
