The Chicago Bears are in a very good mood today.

They have announced that they will honor Mike Ditka by retiring the #89 jersey he wore during his six-year career as a tight end for the Bears. The ceremony will take place on December 9th before Chicago plays Dallas on Monday Night Football.

The Bears drafted Ditka with the fifth overall pick in 1961 and he responded by winning Rookie of the Year. He made the Pro Bowl in five out of his six years in the Windy City and is the only individual in modern NFL history to win a Super Bowl as both a player and coach for the same franchise.

Ditka is the 14th player to have his jersey retired by the Bears. He has been working at ESPN as an NFL analyst since 2004.
