Ray J

Ray J was seemingly on top of the world in 2007 — he had his second Top 10 single (“Sexy Can I”) and the most popular home movie since Pam and Tommy. Unfortunately for Mr. William Norwood, he’s been trapped in a vortex of irrelevancy ever since. (His highest showing since 2007: “Last Wish”, which peaked at #54 on the Billboard R&B chart).

Conversely, the home video launched the career of his co-star, Kim Kardashian, who has made approximately a kabillion dollars through various ventures (sorry, it’s a long list that I don’t feel like jotting down) and, in turn, launched the careers of her entire family. These days, Ms. Kardashian is in the news even more, thanks to her very public relationship with Kanye West, and the impending birth of their first child.

Recently, in desperate attempts to maintain some form of relevancy, Ray J has taken random shots at his former flame, first via Twitter, and now through the magic of song. His latest single, the aptly-titled, and very on-the-nose “I Hit It First”, would have been enough for most people. But no, he took it a step further, adding some incredible cover art — a blurred-out Kim on the beach. Shots fired!
