Chris Paul

First it was Carmelo Anthony at Syracuse, and now another NBA superstar has had their jersey retired by their alma mater this season. Chris Paul was the guest of honor today in Winston-Salem, as Wake Forest retired the point guard’s #3 jersey at halftime of the Demon Deacons’ game against Maryland. Similarly to Anthony’s retirement ceremony, which came during the final Big East matchup between Syracuse and Georgetown, today’s game is one of the final meetings between Wake Forest and Maryland as ACC opponents (the Terps are moving to the Big Ten in 2014).

Paul played at Wake Forest for two seasons, leading the Deacons to a 48-16 record overall and two NCAA Tournament appearances, including one trip to the Sweet 16. The Deacons also reached the #1 slot in the polls for the first time during his time there.
