New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert had a very unorthodox assist Wednesday night againt the Indiana Pacers.
Just before the end of the third quarter, Shumpert went to drive to the hole, but couldn’t decided if he wanted to do a behind-the-back crossover or a spin move on Indiana’s Lance Stephenson and lost control of the ball. As Stephenson went in for the steal, Shumpert tried to save the botched move by spinning out of it, but instead he accidentally kicked the ball with his heel and it landed right in the hands of teammate Steve Novak who was spotting up for a three. Novak drained the three and everyone kind of stood around confused for a moment as they tried to figure out what just happened.
Since it was an inadvertent kickball, no call was made and Shumpert recorded the most unlikely assist of the NBA season so far.
