Since 2008, scorned Sonics fans have been routinely spotted at various Oklahoma City Thunder games, providing constant reminders of the franchise’s previous existence. Fast forward five years, and the seemingly perpetually-in-limbo Sacramento Kings are facing a similar fate of the old Sonics, as Bay Area hedge fund manager Chris Hansen recently struck an agreement with the Maloof family which could turn the current Kings into the new Sonics.
You’ll have to pardon forlorn fans of the Green and Gold for being slightly giddy at the prospect of an NBA team coming back to the Emerald City. However, some people might be getting a little too confident, as evidenced by these two fans at Monday night’s Wizards game in Washington, D.C. Be careful, Sonics fans — it ain’t over yet.
