Sgt. Bobby Hernandez says 26-year-old J.R. Smith was stopped Thursday night on Washington Avenue in South Beach and was arrested on a bench warrant for not having a valid driver’s license. The officer conducted a routine search which yielded a bench warrant for Smith, and then took the New York Knicks player into custody. The actual reason for Smith being pulled over was not disclosed by the police. Hernandez also said that Smith was taken to the Miami-Dade County jail, where officials say he posted bond early Friday morning and was released.
