Nike has unveiled the new Euro kits for Croatia, France, Netherlands, Poland and Portugal. Not surprisingly, the uniforms feature form fitting style and a series of innovations means to improve performance. What provides somewhat more of a shock is the source of the material for the jerseys: recycled plastic bottles.

In line with Nike’s commitment to combining athletic performance with lower environmental impact, fabric for the new kit’s shorts is made with 100% recycled polyester, while the shirt fabric is made with a minimum 96% recycled polyester. Each kit is made using an average of 13 recycled plastic bottles.

This isn’t brand new technology for Nike but turning landfill material into international caliber soccer gear is pretty impressive stuff. Of course Nike also got the usual array of soccer superstars to model the gear as well.

You can check out the stars, the uniforms and hear more about the fabric in this video.
