Over the weekend, Lionel Messi put on his own all star game when he netted another brilliant free kick against Atletico Madrid. Messi went opposite top corner, bending the free kick over the keeper giving Barcelona the winning goal. It was another quality strike from Messi and the Spanish commentators’ reaction says it all. With goals like this, it is no wonder he became the first person to win footballer of the year three years in a row.

“…it is no wonder he became the first person to win footballer of the year three years in a row.”

    Please double-check your facts.

Michel Platini won the award three times in a row back in the 1980s
    (refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballon_d%27Or)

Marta (she’s a person, too) has won the award five times in a row
    (refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Player_of_the_Year)

Nonetheless, I do agree with you that the goal by Messi over the weekend was simply brilliant.

    All the best to you!
