Fabio Capello Calls It Quits As England Manager

The FA announced Wednesday evening that Fabio Capello has stepped down as England National Team Manager, effective immediately. Capello was very upset with the FA for not consulting with him before stripping John Terry of his captaincy. Terry is currently involved in a pending racial harassment trial. Capello’s resignation came immediately after his meeting with the FA.

Here’s what FA Chairman David Bernstein had to say regarding the issue:

“I would like to stress that during today’s meeting and throughout his time as England Manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner. We have accepted Fabio’s resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future.”

Capello’s time as England manager was more hype than substance. He finished with a 28-8-6 record, but failed to bring home any major trophies. Euro 2012 is right around the corner, and England will be looking for a permanent replacement right away.
