I’m a huge fan of Easter eggs in movies.  For those of you who don’t know what those are, they are little hidden jokes within films that pay tribute to other films, usually made by the same director or studio.  For example, in ‘Monsters, Inc.”, Boo hands Sully one of her favorite toys which happens to be Nemo:

And it hadn't been released yet!

Pixar is incredibly good at this, as their films are chock full of items and characters from their other movies.

Obviously, there’s a connection between the Indiana Jones films and the Star Wars films, most notably George Lucas (though Harrison Ford helped a lot).  In “Indiana Jones an dthe Temple of Doom”, the opening nightclub sequence is a place called “Club Obi-Wan”. If I have to explain that significance, stop reading and throw yourself down the stairs immediately:

Get some, Indy!

No time for love, Doctor Jones!

I’ve always prided myself on being able to spot these types of things.  First of all, I’ve seen most of these movies dozens of times.  I’m also a huge trivia buff, and my head is chock full of useless information that makes me very formidable in Trivial Pursuit.

It has been brought to my attention that there is a fantastic Easter egg in my all-time favorite movie, “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, that I had NO idea was there.  When I found out I wanted to slap myself.  Take a look at who’s in the background hieroglyphs in two different parts of the movie:

Oh my!

Wait, what?  Threepio and R2-D2?  Here they are again on the wall of the map room:

This oil bath is going to feel so good!

And, of course, the close-up:

Heavens!

Personally, I was both thrilled and ashamed when I heard about this.  How have I missed it since 1981?  Regardless, I know about it now and I bet your geek friends have no idea.  Go make some bets.
