Big Skeezy Challenge 2011 – Week Seventeen

BSC 2011 - Week 17

Rise and shine, campers!  We’ve finished week seventeen in the Big Skeezy Challenge 2011.  As you know, Big Skeezy has had quite the dry spell as of late in which not much weight has been lost and there was even one week with the upset, that round going to the scale.  Last week was a six pound lost, but after the five pound gain it was really a single pound loss in the grand scheme of things.  Could Skeezy get back to his Sheen-like winning ways?  Let’s break it down:

I hit the road hard this week, determined to get over this stupid hump, get under 300 (or at least significantly closer to it) and dominate the BSC like I did in the beginning.  Frustration was beginning to set in after the last few weeks and I had had about enough.

It’s roughly three miles to and from my home to the office, and I biked it both ways every day this week, including Saturday because I had to go in and fix some stuff that needed to be repaired after hours.  I awoke each morning at 5:00 AM and, while the usual chicken cooked, readied everything for the day.  By 5:30 I was out the door and at the gym a bit before 6:00.  I hit the weights at that point, getting a good thirty minutes in each day.  The days alternated, weight-wise.  Arms one day, chest another, shoulders/back, legs, etc.  The abs got work every day, as lord knows they can use it.

This is usually where I’d insert a picture from my DigiFit application but I haven’t been using it.  It’s not because I don’t want to, but rather that I can’t keep the thing from coming loose and ceasing to function while I ride my bike.  I even bought one of those iPod armbands that I thought might help but the problem is simply that the dongle is too big and I keep jarring it loose.  No data for you!

Now…as much as I would love to end this here and applaud my strong week of exercise, I cannot.  The week, like most weeks, also had its downside.  Let’s rewind to Friday…

A few of us had decided to take in the horse races at Hollywood Park Friday night.  It’s $1 beers until 9:00 PM and $1 sodas and hot dogs all night.  We arrived shortly after 7:00 and indulged in a few malt beverages while betting on the ponies.  I also ate a couple of hot dogs and some peanuts.  This was my first transgression of the week so I didn’t feel too bad about it.  Once the races were over we headed over to the Wild Goose (you can Google that one) and stayed for one drink before the depression and skankiness of the place became too much to bear.  We then headed to another favorite of ours, The Tattle Tale Lounge, where we sang some karaoke (we’re singing Journey here):

Then we started the dance party, which carried on to the homestead.  We attempted a pool break-in which the sight of security cameras stopped and then just danced until about 4:00 AM.  So, yes, my dietary habits that night weren’t stellar but I did get a hell of a lot of exercise.

I spent Saturday riding to and from work and then relaxing.  Sunday was spent poolside with the gang.  A few more beers were had that day as well as a couple of delicious hot links.  Monday was back to the routine as per usual.

Despite the transgressions over the weekend I still felt really good about today’s weigh-in.  Things are still fitting differently, I feel good, everything was set for a big loss and a kick-start into summer.  I awoke, stepped onto the scale, and found…

…that I’d lost one pound.


Honestly?  One %$#@! pound?  Now I’ve really become frustrated.  I get it.  I know that I’m having my fun on the weekends but even this weekend was better than the last and nothing has even come close to rivaling spring training or my birthday bender, two weekends in which I did a hell of a lot better than this.  I also wasn’t biking 6-7 miles a day then, either.  What the hell?

In any case, for those of you keeping score at home that brings me down to 311 and a total weight loss thus far of 60 pounds.

And there you have it.  All I can do is keep fighting the good fight.
