Detroit Red Wings forward Johan Franzen was checked into the boards face first by Phoenix’s Shane Doan in the first period causing a slight mis-arrangement of skin and lots of blood.
He was down for a few minutes following the hit while being attended to by the trainer. He eventually skated off with some help, his mouth bleeding. No surprise, he returned to the game in the 2nd period to a roaring ovation from the Detroit faithful and to the track “I Get Knocked Down” by Chumbawumba.
He needed 23 stitches to close a cuts on his forehead and upper lip.
