Carmelo Anthony going to the Knicks has created a ton of demand for the new #7 NY jersey. But it looks like the NBA didn’t properly forecasts NBA fans’ love for Melo as his NBA replica jersey’ next order is 30 days out, leaving Melo fans waiting in the wind.

According to CNBC’s Darren Rovell:

Sources tell CNBC that Adidas shipped some 17,000 Carmelo Anthony jerseys to retailers in the 72 hours after Anthony was traded from the Denver Nuggets last week and that another 50,000 jerseys are scheduled to be on the shelves over the next 30 days.

This issue then becomes; what if people can’t wait the 30 days? Sports apparel is often an impulse purchase, and if fans can’t find jersey’s for a month they may go with lower costs #7 T’s or other options. The NBA’s VP of merchandising Sal LaRocca also chimed in on why the Melo jersey’s are MIA:

“We have a variety of products to satisfy demand in the marketplace,”LaRocca told CNBC. “With the unpredictability of player movement, however, expecting accurate inventory forecasts and potential demand in each market for jerseys is unrealistic. As a result, our partners have historically shipped all the inventory they have on-hand immediately and have increased production accordingly, just as they are doing today.”

The good news for NY fans is that Knicks gear hasn’t been desired in 10 years, so it least that’s something.
