CES 2011 wouldn’t be complete without exposing some of the more interesting spins on the word “electronic.” We spoke to Vapor Corp. about their line of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarette). For those who don’t know what an e-cigarette is, let me explain. The e-cigarette was invented in the last decade as a safer alternative to cigarettes and cigars. It delivers nicotine just like a normal cigarette but without the carcinogens and smoke.

Electronic Cigarette Operation

Vapor Corp’s flagship model, the Fifty-One, comes in two distinct models: The Duo and The Trio. The Duo is a two-piece e-cigarette composed of a battery and cartomizer. The cartomizer is a combination of both an atomizer and pre-filled nicotine solution. The atomizer is the heating element that activates upon inhalation to vaporize the liquid nicotine. Both the Duo and Trio automatically activate the atomizer using a sensor that determines when the user is inhaling. Our test unit came with a USB charger that connects to the battery so you can recharge the device. The Trio is a three-piece e-cigarette composed of a battery, an atomizer, and the refill cartridge/filter. With the Trio you can dispose of and replace only the refill cartridge/filter without disposing of the atomizer and cartridge/filter at the same time like the cartomizer in the Duo. Although the Trio gives you more control over replacing the individual components, I personally like the convenience of the two-piece Duo—less to deal with and less upfront cost.

The Duo e-cigarette can last the equivalent of 1 ½ to 2 packs of cigarettes before you have to change the cartomizer. The Trio e-cigarette which uses the refill filter can last the equivalent of 1 to 1 ½ packs of cigarettes. These numbers vary depending on strength, size, and duration of inhalations.

Customization
Both the Duo and the Trio allow for different flavor cartomizers or refill cartridge/filters. Based on the the type of cigarettes you smoke and the level of nicotine required to get your fix, Vapor Corp. offers different flavors (tobacco and menthol) and strengths (from 0mg to 24mg depending on the model you choose). With the Duo you can purchase two different sized batteries (long and short) whereas the Trio you have the option of purchasing five different jewel cut glass tips: red, blue, pink, silver, and gold.

Other Products
Vapor Corp. also sells disposable e-cigarettes and cigars. These are a good alternative for people who want to try the e-cigarette technology before committing to a traditional e-cigarette system. The Fifty-One 1-piece Krave line of disposable electronic cigarettes is good for up to 500 puffs. The Fifty-One electronic disposable cigar, as seen in the video, has a cigar smell and taste and comes in two different sizes: a mini “Corona” size good for 600 puffs and a regular size that lasts approximately 2500 puffs.

Final Word
Thanks to the wonderful people at Vapor Corp. for spending the time with us at CES 2011. They have a quality line of electronic cigarettes and were a joy to speak with. If you want to purchase any of the products discussed in this article and video, want additional information, or have other questions, feel free to visit their websites at: www.smoke51.com and www.vapor-corp.com.

Final Final Word
Although not currently offered (wink wink), we feel it is only a matter of time before you are able to purchase THC-filled cartridges for your electronic cigarette.
